1992 / 2018 – Roles in the Relocation Industry

Dec 2011 to March 2018 – Business Development Consultant – Roomservice by CORT – the UK’s largest furniture rental company, owned by CORT Furniture Rental in the USA and a Berkshire Hathaway Company

My focus was to provide a wide range of furniture rental solutions to companies relocating their employees into the UK who needed furniture, housewares, linen and domestic accessories for their properties for short, medium or long term periods during their assignment in the UK, turning people’s houses into homes (www.roomservicebycort.com);

During my 30 year career in the world of international relocation and global mobility, I’ve developed strong and lasting relationships with key decision makers in Relocation Companies across the world, and my experience and knowledge enabled me to support and expand Roomservice by CORT’s total business, both in the UK and globally.

2006/11 – Client Services Director – The Furniture Rental Company Ltd (TFRC)

Initially engaged as consultant to plan strategy to gain larger share of corporate relocation market. View Video

  • Totally re-branded company’s image.
  • Designed new website, increasing enquiry rate by 50%.
  • Streamlined corporate communication.
  • Trained team to respond rapidly & use industry parlance.

Result?  Dormant clients re-engaged with TFRC. Won over 15 new corporate relocation accounts. New website attracted new private clients (international employees not getting company packages).

Promoted TFRC at all industry events (ARP, EURA, ERC UK, FEM, Re-locate).
In 5, secured a reputation for TFRC as one the UK’s most professional and reliable furniture rental providers.

2005/6 – Sales & Marketing Consultant for Multi-media Marketing.com Ltd.

Conceived, branded and launched “Hospitality Skills Plus” promoting Customer Service Training programmes to the hospitality industry in London. Targeted hotels, serviced apartments, private associations, clubs, restaurants & gastro pubs. Engaged 45 businesses. Delivered 15 seminars. Project funded by European Social Fund & Learning Skills Council of London.

2002/05 – International Account Director – Going-there Global Destination Services.

Key role launching innovative relocation company into 12 international destination cities.

Long-standing relationships with Global H.R. professionals helped open doors to introduce GT’s services.  Developed strategic alliance partners who chose GT as a preferred supplier over more established contractors. Trained & motivated GT’s operational teams on the ground in visits to China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Budapest & Prague.

2000/02 – Head of Corporate Sales – Central Apartments (Serviced Apartments)

Won over 20 new accounts (including Visa, Polydor, US Navy, Goldman Sachs, Deloittes, Freshfields) who chose CA’s short-medium term accommodation instead of hotels / other apartment providers.
Penned winning flexible strap-line   “1 night, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year – the choice is yours!”.

1997/00 – Head of Sales & Marketing – Capital Asset Management (Property Management)

Promoted a competitive Letting & Management property service to investor landlords in Hong Kong & Singapore for their London rental properties. Got extensive free P.R. in Asian press. Built up portfolio to over 90 landlords. Successfully transferred portfolio over to a larger organisation (Criterion Asset Management) and was engaged as a Marketing Consultant after the handover.

1992/96 – Marketing Manager – PKL Letting & Management (part of Countrywide).

Conceived their winning strap-line  “PKL’s One Stop Shop, Free of Charge Home Search Service”. This attracted new corporate clients who signed up to PKL’s fee paying services (including tenancy management and ultimately full relocation services).

 

1965 / 1992 – Roles in Export Sales in UK, The Far East & Africa

Dexion Ltd (Industrial shelving and storage manufacturers). Regional Manager – Asia.

Set up licencing agreement for local manufacture in Turkey. Won large warehouse pallet racking contract during short term assignment in Hong Kong.

Angus Fire Armour Ltd (Global manufacturers of Fire Fighting Equipment).

Regional Overseas Manager – Far East

7 year posting in Singapore. Masterminded a large ‘fire fighting display & conference’ in Kuala Lumpur. 250 dignitaries from S.E Asia’s Oil & Gas, Military, Civil Aviation & Civil Defence attended.

Regional Sales Representative – East & Central Africa

Spent 6 months a year visiting and selling to local agents in Malta, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi & Zambia. 1 year assignment in the mining copper belt of Zambia.
